Does success make you happy, or does happiness make you successful?
I think the same goes for both. Yes to both. Depends how you define success. For some, it could be that dream house and car, or a high-paying job. "Do something you love and you'll never work a day in your life." It would be the ideal scenario, sure. Personally, success to me would be that plus harmonious relationships with family, friends, other loved ones, and myself. To just be happy with what I have. In a perfect world...that would do it for me.
On the other hand, happiness is a prerequisite for success, to some extent. When you're happy you feel great, you take on the role of the do-gooder more often. You encourage those around you, inspire others...and your laughter is contagious. Because of this you're more productive at work, you give it 101%...and success comes just around the corner. Everything seems to be looking up. You look great too.
Just what does it take for one to realize they are in charge of their own happiness? A few books? Magazines with self-help articles? I watched an old mini-series months ago and what one character said struck a chord: he said something like "you have to find joy in little everyday things," Makes sense, right? If you rely on just something/someone to make you happy, what happens when you get disappointed?
So I say just keep looking ahead. If you stumble, get back up. Roll with the punches. If life throws you lemons, make lemonade. Keep working hard but don't forget to stop and smell the flowers. Have a goal and achieve it. Make time for those you care about and who care about you.
Just some little things I tell myself every now and then.
